Thank you to everyone who joined us at our event on Saturday, November 2, 2019! We greatly appreciate your generosity and support!

This year our theme was Inner Space, which celebrated the parallels between outer space and the microcosm of the brain. The stars are analogous to our neurons, as solar systems are to our networks, and galaxies are to our operating systems and consciousness. Our deep desire to explore and understand the unfathomable vastness and obscurity is equal at both extremes. The theoretical and scientific knowledge that we have uncovered through space exploration has culminated in breakthroughs in applied medicine, especially neuroscience.

Yvonne Cagle, MD, PhD, Astronaut
KEYNOTE

Our Keynote speaker was the multi-talented Dr. Yvonne Cagle, a NASA Astronaut and Family Physician. In 2008, Dr. Cagle retired as a Colonel in the USAF where she served as a Senior Flight Surgeon prior to her selection to the NASA Astronaut Corp in 1996. In 2005, Dr. Cagle was assigned to the NASA/ARC as the lead ARC Astronaut Science Liaison and Strategic Relationships Manager for Google and other Silicon Valley Programmatic Partnerships. Dr. Cagle’s groundbreaking work is preserving historic NASA space legacy data while, simultaneously, galvanizing NASA’s initiatives in global mapping, sustainable energies, green initiatives, and disaster preparedness. Dr. Cagle was the advisor for the Commercial Reusable Suborbital Research Program (CRuSR). Previously, Dr. Cagle served on faculty as the NASA liaison and VP for space exploration technologies with Singularity University based in Silicon Valley California.

Dr. Cagle was a Brussels TEDx Speaker for 2012 and San Francisco for 2018. Dr. Cagle earned a PhD for her accumulative work in Health and Human Science. Historically holding adjunct professorships with Stanford University, UC Davis, and UTMB, Galveston, Dr. Cagle currently, in collaboration with NASA, was a Visiting Professor at Fordham University investigating mitigating neurocognitive countermeasures to optimize long duration space crew behavioral health and performance. Currently, Dr. Cagle is advising on deep space neurobehavioral research and polar analog simulations for NASA’s exploration missions.

Dwayne Perkins
EMCEE

Brooklyn native Dwayne Perkins is a young vet in the comedy game. His one hour comedy special: “Dwayne Perkins: Take Note” debuted on Netflix to rave reviews and instantly became a fan favorite. Take Note was already in the top 50 Netflix comedy specials of all time only 2 months after being released. Dwayne has earned a spot in today’s elite class of standup comics with several appearances on Comedy Central and Conan. Dwayne is the author of the book, “Hot Chocolate For The Mind,” A collection of humorous essays. Dwayne co-wrote and starred in the feature film Dying To Kill, now on Hulu, where he plays a stand-up comic who has to get laughs or die trying. His recurring piece on The Jay Leno Show entitled “Great White Moments in Black History,” was a viewer favorite. Dwayne’s Comedy Central half hour special, a culmination of his talent and hard work, was very well received and voted one of the top 25 Comedy Central specials of all time. It showcases his unique way of looking at life and his unparalleled ability to convey it in a hilarious manner. His comedic instincts and acting skills shine through in the independent film Target Audience 9.1 where he offers much of the comic relief as the funny likable geek. Dwayne wrote for and was featured in a TBS interstitial campaign called Trends With Benefits. Here he took retail trends and put a funny twist on their societal implications. Dwayne had headlined the Hong Kong Comedy Festival and is part of The Bob & Tom Comedy Tour in addition to headlining colleges and comedy clubs across the country.
